Eric Owen Moss welcomes the Fall 2013 incoming students by stressing that the terminology, strategies, and practices they will study should be engaged with respectfully but without reverence. The goal is for each student to develop his or her unique vision, and realize it in the world. Moss warns them to be aware how historical perspectives change, truisms can quickly become false, and conventions are always changing. He concludes with an image of Sisyphus, suggesting that like him, they will experience obstacles, false starts, and starting over at SCI-Arc, but the end result will be an adventure characterized by wonder and happiness.
