After Hernán Díaz Alonso’s introduction, Zhu Pei discusses his concept of “architecture of nature” based on “ecological and cultural sustainability”, connecting “architecture, people, regional culture, geography, climate”, stressing five points:
• Site and Orientation
• Structure and Form
• Sponge architecture
• Cave and Nest
• Incomplete integrity
He illustrates these principles in a detailed description of one project: the Imperial Kiln Museum in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi (2020) covering the context, local building traditions, siting, construction and materials.
At 1:04:34, he shows a five minute video documentary conveying the experience of completed project, and how people use the various spaces.
At 1:09:21, he resumes with a discussion of the Majiayao Ruins Museum and Observatory, in Lintao, Gansu (2022) and a conference center in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi (2022).
