James Stirling (April 19, 1976) Part 1 of 201:01:17

Shelly Kappe welcomes James Stirling.

Stirling proposes to discuss his work with James Gowan as "a collection of archaeological pieces, or, a series of characteristics, hence a collage of preferred items." Which he specifies as five categories of building designs:
--Vertically stacked aggregation of accommodations,
--Linear addition of similar accommodations
--L-shape, with linear extensions enclosing volumes
--Wrap-around courtyard spaces
--Building that turns in on itself

He discusses competitions for a museum of modern art in Düsseldorf and the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum in Cologne.
