Coate, Kappe & Zimmerman / In the year 2000 (1977)01:33:50

This video contains two different works.

The first item is a version of the “LA 12” conversation of November 1, 1974, also available at https://youtu.be/xJj5bKrzEMs .

The second item is a video running from 1:01:34 to 1:29:44, in which Ray Kappe narrates a text accompanied by found and new footage.

The video begins with a vision of radical changes in every aspect of life in the next generation – in the year 2000. Then it steps back to survey how architecture has responded to changing conditions since the 1960s. A critique of architectural education follows, with a discussion of SCI-Arc. The video concludes with statements about the future from four heads of architecture programs: Charles Burchard, Gerald McCue, César Pelli, and Charles Moore.
