Jeffrey Kipnis & Eric Owen Moss: Figure Ground Game exhibit talk (January 17, 2014)01:02:59

Jeffrey Kipnis characterizes his role as analogous to a film or theater producer, casting architectural and other works in scripted conceptual roles. He describes the care with which he calibrated different views–from the gallery floor and from above–and notes that the exhibit contains hints, rather than instructions, on how to view the work. He notes that additional texts and images will be posted on the Figure Ground Game Blog. Questioning his use of Le Corbusier’s slogan “Architecture or revolution,” Eric Owen Moss and Kipnis discuss the capacity of architecture for changing the world, historical avant-gardes, and debate the connection between architecture and tragedy. Kipnis calls for an architecture that expresses something other than rectitude and permanence, and describes his love of exhibitions as a form.
