Mark McCollough: Rapid prototyping (January 30, 1998)01:11:42

The audio of Michael Dobry’s introduction is not clear.

Mark McCollough describes describes the rapid prototyping facilities at Art Center. He discusses different rapic prototyping processes like fused deposition modeling (FDM), laser cutting, and CNC milling. McCollough demonstrates live how the CNC milling software works. Students approach the machine to watch it produce the prototype. He describes the process in detail, mentioning STL and IGS files, nurbs surfaces, vector tool paths, and the difference between 3- and 5-axis milling machines.

SCI-Arc faculty and students ask McCollough to come back to SCI-Arc to do a workshop. They also discuss the cost of the software and machines.
