Daniel Arsham: Wherever You Go, There You Are09:12

In this film, Heidi Zuckerman, CEO and Director of Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA), reflects on her curatorial debut at the museum: “Daniel Arsham: Wherever You Go, There You Are.” Zuckerman offers insights into the exhibition’s intriguing exploration of “fictional archaeology,” a concept through which Arsham reimagines everyday objects as relics from the future. These eroded, crystallized sculptures—such as a bronze DeLorean, corroded tech devices, and life-sized classical statues—ask viewers to reconsider how history, time, and memory shape our present.

The film, set against the immersive and textural backdrop of Arsham’s installations, offers audiences a glimpse into the diversity of his work, from sculptures to architectural designs, each piece contributing to an imaginative journey through past, present, and speculative futures. Anchored by Zuckerman’s narrative, the film guides viewers through OCMA’s exhibition spaces, providing a rich visual and intellectual experience of Arsham’s work as it navigates culture, architecture, and materiality

Daniel Arsham is an American artist renowned for his unique approach to architecture, sculpture, and design, blurring the lines between past and future with his "fictional archaeology" concept. Born in 1980 and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, he later moved to Miami, where his art education began to flourish. After studying at Cooper Union in New York City, his career took a significant turn in 2004 when he was noticed by influential choreographer Merce Cunningham, who invited him to design stage sets. This collaboration inspired Arsham’s enduring interest in combining artistic media, particularly his integration of sculpture with architecture.

Arsham’s work has been widely exhibited internationally. Notable solo exhibitions include "Connecting Time" at MOCO Museum in Amsterdam and "Paris, 3020" at Perrotin Gallery in Paris, showcasing his "Future Relics" series. His works are in the collections of prominent museums such as the Pérez Art Museum in Miami and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Miami, as well as in private collections of high-profile individuals, including Pharrell Williams, Usher, and Mark Zuckerberg. His unique vision has placed him among the most innovative contemporary artists working today, with ongoing projects that continue to reshape how we experience modern artifacts and their potential legacy
